Choosing between Levoit's Core 200S and Core 300S

Levoit’s Core line of air purifiers is a successful air purifier line. Focused on home users, but suitable for small offices, all Levoit Core air purifiers HEPA filtration, a simple, clean design, and relatively quiet operation.

Both the 200S and 300S have 4 fan speeds, produce the same amount of noise (24dBA to 48dBA) and have Smart, app-integrated features including scheduling and filter-change notification. They both also carry Energy Star Certifications and extremely high marks from owner reviews.

Suggested room size

First the Core 300S has a higher CFM rating than the Core 200S making the Core 300S a better choice for medium-sized rooms.

The 200S is better suited for small rooms. Levoit suggests a maximum room size of 183 square feet for the 200S and 219 square feet for the 300S.

Active air quality/particle measurement

Second the 300S has an active PM2.5 particle sensor, lacking in the 200S.

The particle sensor enables a visual Air Quality Indicator on the Core 300S as well as an automatic mode. In Auto mode, the 300S adjusts the fan speed to the appropriate level for the current air quality.

Levoit calls the system AirSight™ Plus, and the real-time air quality measurement can be viewed in the 300S’s mobile App. The 200S also has an App, but lacks the AQI features AirSight™ Plus provides.

HEPA filtration capabilities

Finally, while both air purifiers feature HEPA H13 filtration, only the Core 300S has Levoit’s HEPASmart™ Technology. According to the manufacturer, this “…enhances the H13 True HEPA filtration by capturing 99.99% of bacteria and mold, as well as 99.9% of viruses.”

With this technology the Core 300S offers protection against a wider set of airborne pollutants, irritants and particles. While the 200S is recommended for filtering out dander, dust, hair, lint, pollen, odors and smoke, the 300S is recommended for those as well as bacteria, mold, viruses and VOC’s

Minor differences include the size and weight of each unit with the 200S being smaller than the slightly larger 300S.

Our recommendation: Levoit Core 300S

We recommend the Levoit Core 300S. The Core 300S’ uptick in price is well worth the additional HEPA filtration capabilities, automatic mode and AirSight™ Plus. The 200S is a good air purifer, but we think the investment in the more capable 300S is the better choice
